Professional Development Grant Program for Classified Staff
The College of Letters & Science has made available $5,000 per year to be used to support professional development opportunities for College classified staff.
The program is administered by the College of Letters & Science and the CSIC will accept applications for the competition and award the grants. An email will be sent to all classified staff by the College Human Resource Manager with details and application deadlines in the summer of each year.

Classified Staff Excellence Awards
Each year, the Dean of the College of Letters and Science also offers five awards of $3,000 each recognizing outstanding performance, service and/or contributions by L&S classified staff members.
Based on proportionate number of employees in each grouping within the College, there will be three awards given to employees covered by the administrative support bargaining agreement; one award given to employees covered by the blue collar or technical bargaining agreement; and one award given to employees in the WPEC bargaining unit, engineering bargaining unit or non-represented staff.
The individuals nominated must have two years consecutive service within the College and are eligible once every ten years.
Nomination factors for the Classified Staff Excellence Awards include:
- Effectiveness: Nominee’s work performance and work products are outstanding and/or have made a significant impact in terms of the overall value and benefits to specific program goals or to the University above and beyond the individual’s position description.
- Innovation, creativity and originality: Nominee continually seeks to initiate, improve or refine methods/procedures that significantly enhance the mission of the organization
- Leadership: Nominee consistently demonstrates outstanding leadership skills and initiatives. The employee is regularly sought out for advice and consultation. Nominee takes initiative to creatively resolve complex and/or sensitive problems affecting the organization.
- Community Service/Climate: Nominee participates in community service on or off campus which may or may not be related to their job responsibilities. Nominee’s behavior or personality contributes to the creation of a positive workplace climate and/or diversity.
