IV.2 EMPLOYEE BENEFITS: AN OVERVIEW

The benefits offered to employees by the University of Wisconsin-Madison can add as much as 40% to total gross wages. UW-Madison contributes toward State Group Health, State Group Life and Income Continuation insurance premiums. Coverage by these plans may be available at little or no cost to the employee. Other employee-pay-all plans such as Epic Major Medical Insurance and Denta-Care Smile Plus may suit particular situations. Some enrollment deadlines are 30 days from the employment begin date only. New Employee Benefits Packets are available from the Materials Distribution Center (MDS) and can be accessed through the Employee Compensation and Benefits Services forms site. Included in each packet is the Employee Benefits Checklist to be completed by both the employee and staff benefits coordinator.  (EC & BS also offers a simple, on-line order form for benefits forms and information packets.)

Information about employee benefits may be obtained from your department staff benefits coordinator, or from the online Employee Benefits Booklet, located through the EC & BS website at http://www.bussvc.wisc.edu/ecbs/emp-gen-bens-menu.html.  The Office of Human Resource Development also offers several classes for new employees covered under the Wisconsin Retirement System to help them understand their benefit plans and enrollment deadlines. For more information, go to https://fpm-www3.fpm.wisc.edu/ohrd/coursecreation/.

New Graduate Assistant Benefit Orientation Seminars are also offered and a schedule can be found at http://www.bussvc.wisc.edu/ecbs/uw1039.html.
