1.5 ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE

In this and the following sections, we offer several different ways of looking at the administrative structure of the College. The two main organizational units are L&S Administration (dealing primarily with personnel, budget, curriculum, academic planning, and facilities) and L&S Student Academic Affairs (dealing primarily with undergraduate student advising, administration of College degree requirements, and programs for minority and disadvantaged students).

Several of the Associate Deans of the College comprise Dean Sandefur's Senior Staff. They are:

  • Academic Divisions - Charles N. Halaby (Social Sciences), Magdalena Hauner (Humanities), Herb Wang (Natural Sciences)
  • Administration (Budget, Planning and Finance) - Margaret Roth
  • Research - Susan Ellis Weismer
  • Student Academic Affairs - Ann Groves Lloyd
  • Diversity and Cross-college Initiatives - Judi Roller
  • Undergraduate Education and Academic Administration - Nancy Westphal-Johnson

Staff Meetings

Dean's staff meetings are held on Monday mornings during the academic year. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss broad policy and planning issues and to consider faculty recruitment and appointment requests. Short-term staffing and many other resource allocation requests are delegated to the appropriate associate dean (see Section on "Paper and Request Flow"). Deadlines will be established for recurring items, such as short-term staffing requests. Non-recurring requests may be submitted at any time.
