VI.15 SPECIAL GROUP STATUS FOR MULTI-SECTION COURSES Final exam group assignments are made by the Registrar's Office, usually solely on the basis of the course's time and day pattern. This method avoids conflicts for the obvious reason that no student can take two courses at the same time. In some departments, however, the same course is offered at different times (e.g., a beginning foreign language) and there is a need to give one common final exam at the same time. A department offering a multi-section course that needs one final exam must request Special Group Status, which means that a final exam will be scheduled at one time and place for all students in the course. Unlike the usual method of scheduling where no conflicts arise, some students will experience conflicts and be scheduled to take two final exams at the same time. While we can minimize these conflicts, a few do occur. In these cases, College policy provides that the instructor of the special group status course must give the student a make-up final exam at another time. Question regarding this policy can be directed to your department's Timetable and Classroom Scheduling Representative or L&S Student Academic Affairs (262-5858). Last reviewed: August 11, 2008 . |
