VI.20 African American Student Academic Services Website: http://www.lssaa.wisc.edu/aasas African American Student Academic Services (AASAS) provides support services to African and African American undergraduate students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The desired outcome from the work of AASAS is to work in step with other programs and services on the UW-Madison campus to ensure that all African and African American students graduate from the university. Contact is initiated and maintained through mailings, reference and referral, as well as through support of student organizations and their events throughout the academic year and summer session. AASAS and Pathways to Excellence staff also connect with students through programs such as Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR); bridge programs (e.g., Summer Collegiate Experience); and through forms of communication (e.g., office hours, e-mail). Among the goals of AASAS are to provide academic advising, informal counseling, and to support cultural and academic programming that assists the retention and graduation of African and African American students. In doing so, all students will benefit from a culturally, economically, geographically, and academically diverse campus. For more information, contact the program coordinator,
