VI.4 L&S ADVISING SERVICE

Website: http://www.lssaa.wisc.edu/lsas/
Location: Bascom Hall (Reception area: 70 Bascom Hall)
Phone: 608/262-1849

All entering students in L&S are assigned to an advising service or an advisor in a specialized program (e.g., AAP, Honors, Pre-Business). Advisor assignment is based on what is known about students' academic plans at SOAR. Some students are assigned an advisor based on their paticipation in a specific program; most are assigned to an advising service. Some students may declare their major and are assigned a department advisor.

L&S is home to two advising services, both of which assist L&S students to achieve their academic goals. Students who have already decided on their L&S major at SOAR are assigned an advisor in the Letters and Science Advising Service (LSAS). Students who are still considering several options in L&S and /or considering a major outside of L&S will be assigned to Cross-College Advising Services (CSAS). The advisor assigned at SOAR will liekly remain a student's prmary academic advisor until the student declares a major.

Academic advising for students who have chosen an L&S major and have not yet declared is provided by both permanent staff and volunteers from academic departments. Advisors are assigned based upon the student's intended major. All advisors are responsible primarily to provide general academic advice, with particular emphasis on the BA/BS degree requirements and preparation for students to declare their major. Advisors are also expected to provide advice in their areas of expertise.
