II.19 ACADEMIC STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUNDING

The UW System offers a professional development program for academic staff members. Applications may be made once a year. Procedures are announced through Wisconsin Week and coordinated by the Academic Personnel Office.   Dean's Office review is required. The program typically provides half (50%) of the cost of an approved project; the department will be expected to cover the remaining half and should explain how it will cover its match using departmental sources of support.  (More information is available online at http://www.ohrd.wisc.edu/grants/index.asp.)

The provision of travel funds for academic staff members attending professional conferences is primarily a departmental matter. However, to encourage such professional development activities on the part of academic staff, the College will provide a limited number of grants of up to $300 to match the departmental contribution for academic staff members giving a paper at, or otherwise actively participating in, a professional conference. This funding is normally available only for academic staff whose appointments are on 101 funds and would be available no more than once per year per academic staff member. To seek such matching funding, send a request with a description of the conference and the academic staff member's role in it to the appropriate Associate Dean.
