II.21 INDIRECT COST CAPITAL EXERCISE

An important source of support for departmental capital equipment needs for many years has been the annual capital exercise. The chief source of funding is indirect cost (overhead) income which is budgeted for equipment acquisition and replacement. These funds are made available to the College (as a Fund 150 allocation) when the University has achieved the budgeted level of overhead income on which its base budget depends.

In recent years, the College has received its indirect cost allocation late in the fall semester, and has allocated these funds to L&S departments shortly thereafter in the form of block grants. Once the funds have been allocated departments are asked to provide us with a summary of their expenditures, which will be reviewed and forwarded to the Chancellor's Office. Funds must be encumbered or spent during the same fiscal year in which they are allocated.

Questions should be directed to the appropriate Associate Dean.
