Annual updates usually include:
L&S Calendar
Removed from Handbook; replaced by lists of regular meetings and warning that users should attend to deadlines noted in emails.
L&S Snapshot (still to be updated with official data from 2007-2008; should be available in September 2009)
Paper and Request Flowchart , also known as the "what goes where and whom do I call about it?" reference for all L&S departments and programs (updated August 2008)
MANY small updates not listed below have also been made.
Other Revisions:
Most revisions made for the 2009-2010 edition of the Handbook were minor, since we anticipate a major overhaul to take place next year. A few of the more substantial changes, made to clarify policy, are listed below.
Section 1.3 has had a additional pages connected to it, to reflect L&S Curriculum Committee recommendations related to departments/programs' creation of directed study and topic courses to increase department-level flexibility in the curriculum.
Section I.19 is currently being revised to reflect more current modes of electronic communication; this should be ready in September.
Section II.5 has been revised to reflect processes for seeking approval for out-of-state travel funded by GPR funding.
Various areas in Section III note that hiring restrictions are in place.
Section VIII.6, on planning for the possibility of a Flu Pandemic.
Section VIII.7. Information about how UW-Madison faculty and staff who are eligible to do so may gain access to the campus data systems they require for their work.
Section VIII.8 Information for departments about participating in the L&S Departments' furniture/computer "Swap List"
What's not here?:
Information on furloughs. This situation is continually changing, so the best source of information for departments will be the e-mail messages L&S Admin will periodically send to L&S units. We suggest that employees consult the UW-Madison Budget Office website on this topic: http://budget.wisc.edu/
Information on Collective Bargaining for UW Faculty and Academic Staff. Again, this situation is evolving, and the best source of information may be the UW System Human Resources website (http://www.uwsa.edu/hr/barglegis.html) and/or memoranda sent from the Office of Human Resources to employees who may be affected by this legislation.
