Research and Technology Transfer
Bill Barker, Associate Dean for Research & Technology Transfer, serves as a resource for faculty and staff in the general area of regulatory compliance, specifically protection of Intellectual Property and Academic Freedom and management of potential conflicts of interest in remunerative outside activities.
Specific duties and areas of expertise include compliance with UW policies regarding:
- Invention Disclosure Reporting
- Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs)
- Advice on the need for and assistance with the construction of outgoing MTAs
- Review and negotiation of incoming MTAs;
- Facilitate academic-industrial collaborations
- Negotiate confidentiality, as well as collaborative and sponsored research agreements
- Facilitate staff entrepreneurship
- Review outside activity reports for conflict of interest and/or conflict of commitment issues
- Dean's Office Representative to the Campus-wide Conflict of Interest Committee (COI)
- Member of the Advisory Board for the Office of Industrial Contracting
- Export controls compliance
