STAR Programs
The Foundations professional development series starts up again September 2012. Each program in the series allows you to explore topics in weekly small group meetings over the course of 13 weeks. You will get to know people from across the UW-Madison campus and the Madison business community while expanding the ways in which you think about leadership issues.
The Foundations series consists of three 13-week programs:
- Foundations I: The Research Behind Leadership & Management
- Foundations II: Leadership, Stress & Health
- Foundations III: Initiating & Sustaining Organization Change
The programs are designed to be taken in consecutive order. If you feel you have a strong case for skipping ahead (e.g., you teach or do research in the areas of organization development, occupational health, occupational stress, job design, etc.), contact Katherine to discuss possibilities. It is not necessary to commit to all three programs in order to start. You can take Foundations I, see if it fits your needs, and decide afterwards if you wish to continue with Foundations II in the future.
Foundations sessions fill quickly each semester, sometimes from waiting lists from the past. so if you are interested in participating but the sessions are already full, contact Katherine to see about getting on the advance notice list for the future.
STAR Collaboration Incubators
Collaboration Incubators are formed to advance transdisciplinary research projects. These facilitated incubators help faculty take advantage of the deep and diverse expertise across UW-Madison and the Madison community. Faculty members with visions for projects requiring expertise from disciplines that span research paradigms are given organizational support in finding and working with collaborators across and beyond UW-Madison. Katherine Sanders devotes her time, organizational experience and networking connections to partner with the faculty member and advance her/his vision. STAR has no extra funding or resources to offer.Current & Previous STAR Collaboration Incubators:

- Project Health, led by Professor David Rakel, MD (Associate Professor of Family Medicine, Director of the UW-Madison Integrative Medicine Program, pictured on the right)
- Early Childhood Literacy, led by Professor Dipesh Navsaria, MD, MPH, MSLIS (Assistant Professor of Pediatrics)
- Water Research, led by Professor Sam Kung (Associate Professor of Soil Science)
- Your proposed topic and incubator outcome (i.e., what do you wish to accomplish?)
- Your vision of the potential impact of this transdiciplinary topic (i.e., why is it important to engage people from contrasting research paradigms?)
- Examples of diverse disciplines already engaging the topic
- Proposed project scope and timeline (i.e., how will we know if we’ve succeeded, and how many weeks/months will it likely take us to get there?)
- Your willingness and availability to partner in shaping this collaboration (i.e., your capacity to devote significant time and energy to the incubator)
