Early Excellence in Teaching Award

Up to 5 winners per year

$500 award

The Early Excellence Award recognizes outstanding and inspirational achievement on the part of TAs with fewer than 4 semesters of teaching experience. Campus-wide

Any TA with less than 4 semesters of teaching experience at this or any other institution

UW-Madison Exceptional Service Award

Up to 5 winners per year

$500 award

The Service Award recognizes outstanding teaching assistants who, in addition to their regular duties, perform exceptional service related to the education mission of their departments in the form of volunteerism, committee work, mentoring, etc. Nominations should focus on the service performed outside of the TA's regular duties. Campus-wide

UW-Madison Innovation in Teaching Award

Up to 5 winners per year

$500 award

The Innovation Award recognizes teaching assistants who brought exceptional creativity to their work and developed or adapted new teaching methods or techniques.

Departmental endorsement

Personal statement from nominee that explains the innovation and its pedagogical significance (two pages, doublespaced)

UW-Madison Capstone Ph.D. Teaching Award

Up to 5 winners per year

$500 award

This award recognizes Ph.D. students who have performed as outstanding teaching assistants throughout their UW-Madison tenure. Campus-wide

Nominees should be at the end of their graduate careers and planning to defend their dissertations before the end of the school year


TAs may be nominated only once for this award

November 9 Personal statement describing the evolution of the nominee's teaching philosophy (two pages, doublespaced)

Letters of recommendation from TWO faculty or staff members who are familiar with the nominee's performance as a TA

L&S Teaching Fellow

15 winners per year

$1000 award

(Funded entirely by the College of Letters and Science)

The Teaching Fellow Award is granted to TAs from the College of Letters and Science, the College of Ag and Life Sciences, and the School of Human Ecology who have achieved outstanding success as students and teachers. Winners of this award are named L&S Fellows and serve as instructors at the L&S TA training session at the start of the fall semester. For TAs from L&S, CALS, SOHE, IES.
